PASOK expands membership and prepares private debt legislation
The Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) is undergoing a period of political expansion and legislative activity. The party is strengthening its ranks through the integration of former SYRIZA members, most notably with the official joining of Evangelos Apostolakis, the former Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and Minister of National Defence. Other recent additions from the SYRIZA sphere include Olympia Teligioridou, Lefteris Avramakis, and Alexandros Avlonitis, with Nina Kasimati also reportedly expected to join.
In addition to personnel changes, PASOK is preparing for upcoming elections by focusing on policy opposition. The party intends to submit a legislative proposal to the Greek Parliament regarding private debt. The proposal aims to establish a framework for protecting primary residences—with value thresholds ranging from €200,000 to €310,000 depending on family status—and provides for long-term repayment plans of up to 35 years to assist debtors in financial distress.
