PASOK parliamentary expansion and strategic policy disputes

Overview

PASOK is intensifying its political activities through a dual strategy of parliamentary opposition and grassroots mobilization. The party is increasing pressure on the New Democracy government via legislative proposals and amendments concerning issues such as private debt, housing, and the cost of living.

Nikos Androulakis, leader of the PASOK-Movement for Change party, has announced a comprehensive legislative proposal to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Greece. Speaking at the 1st National Congress of the Chamber of Craftsmen of Athens, Thessaloniki, and Piraeus, Androulakis stated that the party will submit a bill to Parliament focusing on taxation, private debt regulation, financing, and operating costs. He criticized the current government, arguing that sustainable economic growth is impossible if resources are concentrated among a few large entities. He claimed that out of approximately 820,000 small and micro-businesses, only 15,170 have successfully accessed financing, and alleged that the government has mismanaged approximately 85 billion euros in European recovery funds by directing them toward large corporations rather than building a broader productive base.

In addition to its legislative efforts, PASOK is ramping up its organizational presence across Attica and throughout Greece. A significant upcoming event is a rally scheduled for Sunday, October 18, in Egaleo. Led by Nikos Androulakis, this gathering is intended to mark the start of a pre-election campaign and commemorate the 45th anniversary of Andreas Papandreou’s first government in 1981.

The political climate has also seen heightened tension between PASOK and SYRIZA, characterized by sharp rhetoric and personal criticisms between party figures.
