Athens implements traffic restrictions and weather warnings
Several significant updates have been issued for the Athens region. The Small Ring traffic restriction measure has returned to the center of Athens, effective from October 12, 2026, until July 23, 2027. This measure regulates vehicle entry based on the last digit of license plates (odd/even) during specific hours: Monday through Thursday from 07:00 to 20:00, and Friday from 07:00 to 15:00. Electric, hybrid, and low-emission vehicles are exempt.
In terms of infrastructure, Athens Metro Line 3 will undergo rail replacement works, causing six stations—Panormou, Katehaki, Ethniki Amyna, Holargos, Nomismatokopeio, and Agia Paraskevi—to close early at 21:40 during specific periods in October.
Additionally, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued warnings regarding deteriorating weather conditions expected on October 13 and 14, including heavy rain, storms, and local hail, particularly in coastal areas. Citizens are advised to secure outdoor objects and avoid traveling through torrents.
On the political front, the PASOK party has announced increased activity against the government, including a major gathering in Egaleo on October 18 to mark the 45th anniversary of Andreas Papandreou's first government. Meanwhile, heavy traffic congestion has been reported on major arteries like Kifisos and the Attiki Odos.
