PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis unveils new government program at Thessaloniki Fair
At the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis presented a comprehensive government program aimed at achieving first place in upcoming national elections. His platform includes seven key legislative interventions focused on addressing the cost of living, establishing a new productive model, increasing wages, regulating private debt, tackling the housing crisis, reforming public health and education, and supporting demographic issues. Specific proposals include the gradual reintroduction of the 13th month salary and 13th pension, VAT reductions on essential goods, and support for IVF through public structures.
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis launched a sharp critique of the proposals, accusing Androulakis of populism and ‘bidding wars’ for votes. Marinakis argued that the measures, such as a four-day work week and various social benefits, lack a realistic funding plan and would ultimately be paid for by the Greek people. He characterized the program as an attempt to return to an era of unsustainable spending.
In response to specific sectors, Androulakis addressed the energy transition in Western Macedonia, advocating for a model similar to Germany's to avoid regional destruction. He also proposed reforms to the National Health System (ESY) and measures to support the primary sector, including an National Agricultural Land Bank and tax exemptions for agricultural fuel. Meanwhile, PASOK MP Milena Apostolaki raised concerns regarding digital platforms failing to reflect court-ordered adjustments to loan installments for debtors.
