Nikos Androulakis visits fire‑damaged Boeotia to assess damage

Following a major wildfire that swept parts of Attica and Boeotia, two firefighting helicopters collided, killing a Danish pilot and a Greek co‑ordinator. In response, PASOK president Nikos Androulakis cancelled a planned trip to Chalkidiki and travelled to the affected Boeotia region on Tuesday.

Androulakis met residents and local olive growers in the villages of Xironomí and Dómbraína, speaking with community leaders Eustathios Kefala and Konstantinos Bougia. He urged swift damage assessment and compensation for farmers whose olive groves were destroyed, and called for stronger support and modernization of the Hellenic Fire Service. The politician framed the disaster as part of a broader climate crisis, urging the state to decentralise emergency mechanisms and improve preparedness.

The visits aim to document the extent of the fire’s impact on households, agriculture and the local economy, and to pressure authorities to accelerate aid and reconstruction efforts.
