PASOK spokesperson responds to government on parliamentary votes and debt management

Kostas Tsoukala, spokesperson for the PASOK-Movement for Change, has issued several responses to government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis regarding parliamentary procedures and economic management.

Addressing parliamentary matters, Tsoukala defended the party’s decision to vote for Elena Akrita as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, a candidate proposed by SYRIZA. He stated that PASOK consistently supports candidates proposed by parliamentary parties, with the sole exception being far-right or Nazi groups.

On economic issues, Tsoukala criticized the government’s handling of private debt and the protection of primary residences. He challenged Marinakis’s claims regarding protections for homeowners, citing record numbers of auctions, seizures, and payment orders. Tsoukala questioned the effectiveness of the extrajudicial mechanism, noting that while approximately 19 billion euros of debt has been regulated, it represents only a fraction of the total 236 billion euros in unregulated private debt. He further accused the government of favoring investment funds and servicers, promising that under PASOK, the ‘speculation party’ would end.
