Naples honors San Gennaro with new pastry and monument restoration

Naples is preparing for celebrations honoring its patron saint, San Gennaro, through both culinary and cultural initiatives.

Pasticceria Pintauro 1785 has introduced a special ‘Sfogliatella di San Gennaro’ available from September 14 to 21. The pastry incorporates symbolic elements of the saint, including a yellow cream referencing the golden reliquary and a ruby-colored cherry syrup heart representing the miracle of blood liquefaction. The dessert is further decorated with a mitre to signify his episcopal dignity.

In a separate cultural effort, the restoration of the Edicola di San Gennaro in Piazza De Nicola has been completed. This project served as a ‘didactic workshop’ involving students from the Suor Orsola Benincasa University’s degree program in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. The initiative was a collaboration between the university, the Municipality of Naples, and various technical and scientific committees to preserve the symbolic monument ahead of the patron saint's feast day.
