Pasto, Colombia expands social support programs for caregivers and rural families

The municipality of Pasto marked the National Caregiver Day with a ceremony attended by roughly 250 caregivers and their families. Organized by the municipal Secretariat of Social Welfare and the Intersectoral Committee for the Municipal Care System, the event featured health check‑ups, cultural performances and the distribution of services in partnership with ONU Women, the Nariño Governor’s Office, ICBF and local family welfare groups. Officials highlighted the city’s commitment to recognizing caregiving work and improving wellbeing for those who provide daily care.

In a separate initiative, Pasto’s “Sisbén Llega a tu Territorio” program held a second outreach session in the rural corregimiento of Catambuco. Municipal offices offered free processing of Sisbén surveys, data updates, household registrations and disability certifications, eliminating the need for residents to travel to the city centre. The outreach involved the Office of Citizen Attention, the Justice House and the Health Secretariat, and was praised by participants for bringing essential state services directly to the community.
