Pasto, Colombia faces prison escape and surging school fights

In Pasto, a prisoner known as “alias Tito”, linked to the armed group Comuneros del Sur, was taken from the city’s Fátima clinic by armed men and escaped from the local penitentiary. Authorities have not clarified how the escape was carried out, and the incident has raised concerns that the former guerrilla member may re‑join armed activities.

Separately, parents and neighbours report frequent violent clashes outside several schools in the city. Young people are said to gather after classes to threaten and physically assault one another, creating an atmosphere of insecurity for students and residents. Local police say they are increasing patrols but acknowledge the need for coordinated efforts with schools and the community to prevent further incidents.
