Pat Cummins joins cricket legends in calling for Imran Khan’s medical care
Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has joined a group of 21 former international captains in calling for the humane treatment and proper medical care of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister and cricket legend Imran Khan.
In a statement shared on X, Cummins expressed support for the collective appeal sent to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He urged that court-ordered medical assessments be allowed to proceed and that Khan be permitted regular visits from his family, stating, “I hope Imran Khan is treated with the dignity anyone deserves.”
The appeal follows growing concerns regarding the 73-year-old Khan’s deteriorating health during his incarceration since 2023. Former Australian captain Greg Chappell highlighted reports of Khan’s physical decline, including vision issues in his right eye and the mental toll of isolation.
The group of signatories includes prominent cricketing figures such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Adam Gilchrist. They are demanding that the Pakistani government ensure Khan receives independent medical evaluations, including access to his personal doctors, and immediate treatment based on medical recommendations.
