Patagonia tourism expands with new train locomotive and cable car project

Tourism infrastructure is expanding in the Argentine Patagonia region. In Chubut, the “La Trochita” historic train service has added a second locomotive at the Esquel Station to meet high demand. The provincial government has scheduled over 40 departures for October, including 15 from El Maitén and 25 on the Esquel-Nahuelpan route. The additional locomotive underwent boiler replacement and mechanical maintenance at the El Maitén workshops to ensure service stability during the spring season.

In Neuquén, a project is underway to connect Villa La Angostura with Cerro Bayo via a new cable car system. Estimated at 30 million dollars, the initiative aims to reduce seasonal tourism by providing year-round access to the mountain for sightseeing, gastronomy, and recreation. The project is currently evaluating technical quotes from international manufacturers Doppelmayr and Poma to determine the final configuration and investment amount.
