Patagonia regional infrastructure and service developments
Overview
Infrastructure and service developments are occurring across the Patagonia region in Argentina and Chile.
In Argentina, tourism and transport services are expanding. In Chubut, the “La Trochita” historic train service has added a second locomotive to meet high demand, with the provincial government scheduling over 40 departures for October. In Neuquén, a 30 million dollar cable car project is being evaluated to connect Villa La Angostura with Cerro Bayo to encourage year-round tourism. Additionally, Tren Patagónico has opened ticket sales for its Viedma to Bariloche route for the November and December period.
In Chile’s Aysén Region, a new 4x4 mobile library has launched to serve isolated rural communities such as Balmaceda and Cerro Castillo. The vehicle is equipped with heating, a kitchen, and universal access ramps to provide cultural services to remote areas.
