Patras approves digital fire‑detection system for Dasyllio forest

The Patras municipal council unanimously approved a €499,968 funding proposal under the Western Greece 2021‑2027 program to protect the Dasyllio forest, a key green lung adjacent to the city centre. The project, titled “Fire‑Detection System for the Dasyllio Area of Patras Municipality with Biodiversity Database and Smart Applications,” aims to create a 24‑hour monitoring network that can detect early signs of fire and instantly alert the fire service.

The system will combine an array of sensors equipped with artificial‑intelligence algorithms and high‑resolution cameras that continuously analyse visual and thermal data. In addition, a digital platform will record biodiversity information, infrastructure and trail conditions, supported by a mobile app that works offline and a “digital twin” model of the forest. If financing is secured, the Dasyllio will become one of the most advanced forest‑management and fire‑prevention sites in Greece.
