Patras businesses warn of economic damage due to city-wide roadworks
The Patras Commercial and Import Association has issued a statement expressing deep concern regarding the current state of the city's streets. The association describes Patras as a vast construction site, with major roads including Ermou, Karaiskaki, and Kolokotroni undergoing simultaneous works, closures, and traffic restrictions.
These disruptions have led to closed intersections, traffic diversions, and significant bottlenecks, making movement within the city extremely difficult. The association warns that this is no longer a temporary inconvenience but a serious disruption to the city's functioning, with direct negative impacts on citizens, workers, and the local economy.
Business owners report difficulties in accessing shops and significant challenges for supply vehicles, while consumers are being discouraged from visiting the city center due to time-consuming access. The timing is particularly critical as the city prepares for the return of thousands of students and the start of the new school year, a period when the local market typically expects increased activity.
