Patras parents demand school safety inspections after ceiling collapse
The Union of Parents and Guardians of the Municipality of Patras has expressed deep concern following an incident at the 6th General Lyceum of Patras, where plaster sections detached from a classroom ceiling during a lesson. While no students were injured, the Union emphasized that safety should not depend on luck.
The incident has prompted calls for a comprehensive and systematic inspection of all school buildings within the Municipality of Patras. The Union is demanding immediate maintenance and restoration work, alongside adequate funding and staffing for the relevant authorities to ensure preventative measures are taken rather than just reacting to existing problems.
Local officials have noted the necessity of prioritizing prevention to ensure schools remain safe environments for students, teachers, and parents.
