School ceiling collapse in Patras

Overview

A portion of a classroom ceiling collapsed at the 6th General Lyceum of Patras during a lesson. Although plaster fell onto a student’s desk, no injuries occurred because the student had stepped away from the seat moments before the incident. The collapse caused material damage and forced the relocation of students to another area.

In response, the Municipality of Patras scheduled inspections for the 6th Lyceum and the nearby 11th Lyceum to assess structural integrity. Following the incident, the Union of Parents and Guardians of the Municipality of Patras expressed concern, stating that “safety should not depend on luck.” The Union is calling for systematic inspections of all municipal school buildings, immediate maintenance, and increased funding to prioritize preventative measures.
