Patras school ceiling collapse causes disruption but no injuries
A portion of a ceiling collapsed in a classroom at the 6th General Lyceum of Patras during a lesson on Thursday morning. The falling plaster landed directly on a student's desk, but no injuries were reported because the student had stepped away from her seat moments before the incident.
The collapse caused material damage to the classroom and caused significant disruption for students and teachers. As a precautionary measure, students were relocated to another area to continue their studies.
The school administration has notified the Deputy Mayor of Education. A team from the Municipality of Patras is expected to conduct an inspection of the 6th Lyceum to assess the damage and initiate necessary repairs. This inspection will also extend to the 11th Lyceum, which is located within the same school complex at Fire Brigade Square, to ensure no other structural issues exist.
