Patriarch Daniel begins peaceful visit to Jerusalem and Bethlehem

Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria has commenced his first peaceful visit to the Jerusalem Patriarchate, following an invitation from Patriarch Theophilos III. The visit, which runs through September 30, 2026, includes a high-level delegation from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

In Jerusalem, the delegation was received at the Jaffa Gate and proceeded to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for prayer and a formal meeting with the Jerusalem Patriarch. The visit aims to emphasize Christian unity and peace amidst regional conflicts. The program includes a joint Divine Liturgy scheduled for September 27.

In Bethlehem, Patriarch Daniel was welcomed with traditional ceremonies at the Basilica of the Nativity, where he visited the Grotto of the Nativity. He also visited the Monastery of Saint Sava the Sanctified, paying respects to the relics of Saint Sava and visiting sites associated with Saint John Damascene. During his travels, the Patriarch emphasized that in a world divided by conflict, love serves as the essential Christian testimony.
