Patrice Motsepe rules out replacing Tanzania as AFCON 2027 co-host

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has officially ruled out replacing Tanzania as a co-host for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite ongoing concerns regarding the country's infrastructure readiness.

During a visit to Tanzania on September 17, 2026, Motsepe inspected the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to assess preparations for the tournament. He emphasized that there is “never going to be Plan B or Plan C” regarding the hosting arrangement, which will see Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda host the event together for the first time in AFCON history.

While acknowledging that certain aspects of Tanzania's preparations need to be accelerated, Motsepe expressed confidence in the nation's ability to meet requirements. To ensure success, CAF has deployed a 21-member team of experts across the three host nations to monitor the development of stadiums, training facilities, and pitches.
