CAF President rules out Plan B for AFCON 2027 hosting

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has addressed concerns regarding the readiness of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). While Motsepe officially ruled out a ‘Plan B’ and insisted there is no third option for relocation, he acknowledged a sense of ‘great urgency’ due to the proximity of the tournament and ongoing infrastructure delays, such as the Talanta Sports City in Nairobi.

Motsepe has proposed a unique concept where each of the three host nations could hold its own special opening ceremony to celebrate the joint hosting duties. A final inspection of all facilities is scheduled for January to ensure stadiums are 100% operational and tested.

Despite official denials of a contingency plan, reports suggest CAF has previously explored Morocco as a potential alternative host due to its advanced sporting infrastructure, should the East African trio fail to meet technical and broadcast requirements.
