Patriot missile production for Ukraine discussed by Poland, US and Kyiv

Poland has offered to host a production facility for U.S.-made Patriot interceptor missiles as part of a three‑way framework with the United States and Ukraine. Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak‑Czarnecka said the site would be placed in a secure area outside Russian reach, and Poland’s defence minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz pledged technical support and a possible service centre for the missiles. The proposal follows President Donald Trump’s announcement at a NATO summit that Ukraine would receive a licence to produce Patriot missiles, opening the way for technology transfer from Lockheed Martin and joint manufacturing.

Experts caution that the licensing agreements will not immediately improve Ukraine’s air‑defence. Dr Thomas Withington of the Royal United Services Institute warned, “All of these things take time, money and effort,” noting that factories, production lines and trained staff must be built before interceptors can be fielded to protect Ukrainian cities and troops.
