Paul Afoko vows to reunite and restructure Ghana's NPP ahead of 2028 elections

Former National Chairman Paul Afoko is campaigning for the National Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship, promising to reunite, restructure and restrengthen the party. Speaking to delegates in Tamale and on a nationwide tour, he warned that internal divisions and bitterness have contributed to the party’s decline from 169 parliamentary seats in 2016 to 87 in 2024. Afoko stressed that “unity remains non‑negotiable if the party wants to return to government” and called for forgiveness, stronger grassroots structures, and support for polling‑station executives. He aims to position the NPP for a comeback in the 2028 general election and seeks election as national chairman at the party’s upcoming executive elections later this year.
