Australian Politician Pauline Hanson Faces Backlash Over Monocultural Australia Remarks

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson delivered a speech at the National Press Club calling for a “monocultural” Australia, arguing that the country should adopt a single cultural framework and noting that one in four Australians speak a language other than English at home.

Actor Paul Hogan, best known for Crocodile Dundee, responded in an interview with the Australian Financial Review, calling Hanson’s remarks “so racist” and describing her as a “pelican”. Hogan, who lives in California, said Australia’s identity is built on multicultural migration and expressed his desire to return to a multicultural Australia before he dies.

ACT Liberal leader Mark Parton also criticised Hanson, telling her to “go to hell” and emphasizing his own bilingual household with his Colombian wife. Parton labeled One Nation a “grievance echo chamber”. Other Liberal figures, including Andrew Hastie and South Australian senator Andrew McLachlan, defended multiculturalism and urged the party to distance itself from Hanson’s position. The controversy has intensified debate within the Coalition over how to respond to One Nation’s nationalist narrative.
