Paul Kagame links Rwanda's development to FPR sacrifices and blames FDLR for Congo unrest

Speaking to the Rwandan Patriotic Front’s political bureau, President Paul Kagame said the sacrifices of FPR combatants made it possible for Rwanda to become the nation it is today, urging young members to take responsibility for the country’s future. He emphasized, “Le sacrifice des combattants du FPR a permis au Rwanda de devenir ce qu’il est aujourd’hui.”

Kagame also addressed the ongoing crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, rejecting any Rwandan responsibility and attributing the instability to the presence of FDLR fighters—whom he described as former genocide perpetrators now integrated into the Congolese army. He accused the Congolese government of obstructing talks and warned that Rwanda will not withdraw its measures until the FDLR issue is resolved, also criticizing what he sees as a shift in U.S. policy that favours the M23 rebel group.
