Pauline Hanson claims Labor government plans one million new migrants

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has criticized the Labor government, claiming it intends to allow one million new migrants into Australia over the next four years. Hanson argued that the government has consistently failed to meet its own migration targets since 2022 and blamed current immigration policies for straining the country's housing and rental markets.

In response, Assistant Minister for Immigration Matt Thistlethwaite stated that the figures cited by Hanson are "incorrect." He clarified that Hanson's numbers refer to net overseas migration, which includes returning Australian citizens, rather than permanent migration. Thistlethwaite noted that the government has met its permanent migration target of 185,000 over the last two years, a figure driven by employer demand for skilled labor in sectors such as healthcare, education, and construction.
