Pauline Hanson draws criticism for domestic‑violence remarks in Australia

Senator Pauline Hanson of One Nation described domestic violence as a “two‑way street” and suggested that women who are being abused should simply leave their partners. Her comments were made during a radio interview and triggered a wave of condemnation.

Di Glover, CEO of the specialist homelessness and domestic‑violence support service Yes Unlimited and head of the Albury women’s refuge Betty’s Place, called the remarks “dangerous”, saying they blame victims and could encourage attitudes that put women and children at greater risk. Glover emphasized that the period when a woman leaves an abusive relationship is the most dangerous and warned that such views undermine efforts to prevent domestic and family violence.

The comments have sparked outrage from advocacy groups, support services, policymakers and other politicians, who argue they shift blame from perpetrators and downplay the challenges victims face.
