Pavlos Polakis proposes measures to reduce Greek fuel prices

SYRIZA lawmaker Pavlos Polakis has criticized the Greek government and major refineries over high fuel costs, claiming that gasoline prices could drop to €1.20 per liter if specific measures were implemented.

Polakis argued that refining margins have surged from $6 per barrel in 2019 to $35 per barrel in 2026. He proposed two legislative actions to reduce prices: capping refining profit margins at a maximum of $8-9 per barrel and reducing the Special Consumption Tax (ΕΦΚ) from €700 to €400 per ton. He characterized the current pricing structure as a 'robbery' facilitated by the Mitsotakis administration.
