Payment processors face new restrictions to curb illegal gambling

European payment processors are facing increased regulatory pressure to curb involvement in the gambling sector.

In Denmark, the regulator Finanstilsynet has ordered Inpay A/S to stop establishing new business relationships with online gambling companies. This follows an inspection that revealed serious breaches of the Money Laundering Act, specifically regarding insufficient due diligence, inadequate risk assessments for high-risk clients, and weaknesses in ongoing monitoring of cross-border activities.

In Poland, the payment processor BLIK has proactively implemented measures to block transactions directed at illegal gambling operators. Using the Ministry of Finance’s register of illegal sites as a reference, BLIK will block both domestic and international payments to these domains to ensure compliance with Polish law and combat the illicit gambling sector.
