Paysandú prepares for Pope Leo XIV visit and calls for better border integration

Paysandú Mayor Nicolás Olivera has announced preparations for an upcoming visit by Pope Leo XIV. The city has selected Parque París Londres as the primary venue for the event due to its logistical advantages, including proximity to the airport, ample parking, and accessibility. The site is being upgraded with improved security, hydration stations, sanitary services, and audiovisual systems to accommodate large crowds.

Separately, during a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the General San Martín International Bridge, Olivera advocated for improved integration between Uruguay and Argentina. He criticized current border delays, noting that long wait times at crossings can discourage tourism. Olivera emphasized that regional integration should align with the original spirit of Mercosur by facilitating free and agile movement between member nations.
