Boston Celtics extend Payton Pritchard with two-year, $44.2M deal
The Boston Celtics have agreed to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension with guard Payton Pritchard. The deal, reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, includes a mutual option for the 2029-30 season, allowing both the player and the team to decide on his status for that year.
Pritchard, the 2024 NBA champion and 2025 Sixth Man of the Year, is currently under contract through the 2027-28 season. The new extension will not take effect until the 2028-29 season, significantly increasing his annual salary from approximately $8 million to roughly $22.1 million.
The extension follows a breakout period for the guard, who recorded career highs in points (17.0), assists (5.2), and rebounds (3.9) during the 2025-26 season. With the departure of Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia, Pritchard is expected to take on an even more prominent role within the Celtics' rotation alongside Jayson Tatum and Paul George.
