PBNU urges stricter licensing for Islamic boarding schools

The Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has called on the Ministry of Religious Affairs to tighten the licensing process for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This recommendation aims to prevent the establishment of unqualified institutions that could potentially lead to cases of violence against students.

Ulun Nuha, Secretary of the Rabithah Ma’ahid Islamiyah (RMI) PBNU, stated that the request was a primary recommendation from a gathering of pesantren caregivers. The group is urging the government to strictly select which institutions are eligible for permits and to increase supervision through collaboration with various components, including RMI PBNU.

Furthermore, the organization is calling for a ban on any unauthorized parties operating under the name of a pesantren to protect the reputation of these educational institutions. PBNU also encouraged existing pesantren to undergo transformations to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment.
