US PC market shipments grow 1% in Q2 2026 as average prices exceed $1,000

US PC shipments grew 1.0% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 18.8 million units. This growth follows a 7.0% decline in the first quarter and is largely attributed to retailers and channel partners increasing inventory ahead of anticipated price hikes caused by memory and storage supply constraints.

For the first time, the average selling price (ASP) for PCs in the US exceeded $1,000, representing a 12.0% increase compared to the previous year. This shift toward premiumization is evident in sales data: shipments of PCs priced below $699 fell by 6.5%, while shipments of systems priced above $1,500 rose by 36.8%. AI-capable PCs accounted for 48.3% of shipments during this period.

Apple saw a significant rise in market presence, with shipments increasing 32.1% year-over-year to secure the third position in the US market, surpassing Lenovo. Apple's consumer market share reached 29.4%. In contrast, Dell and HP saw shipment declines of 8.8% and 3.7%, respectively.

Despite the quarterly growth, Omdia forecasts a more challenging outlook for the remainder of the year, predicting a 10.7% decline in total US PC shipments for 2026 and an 18.4% drop in the second half of the year.
