PC sales drop 4% globally as Chinese smartphone shipments fall 4.3% in Q2

Global PC shipments fell about 4% in the second quarter, with 65.7 million units delivered – a 3.6% year‑on‑year decline. Desktop deliveries slipped 1.3% while notebook shipments fell 4.2%, driven by rising component costs for DRAM, NAND flash, CPUs and GPUs. Lenovo led the market with 16.6 million units, followed by HP (13 million) and Dell (9.3 million). Apple bucked the trend, delivering 7.3 million Macs and posting a 15.9% annual increase.

In China, smartphone shipments also contracted, reaching 66 million units – a 4.3% drop from the same period last year and the fifth consecutive quarter of decline. Higher memory and component prices forced most Android makers to raise prices, reducing demand. Huawei’s shipments fell 20%, while Apple’s rose 25%, lifting Apple’s market share to 13.9% from 9.9% a year earlier. Huawei remained the market leader with 22.6% share. OPPO, vivo and Samsung each saw modest share losses.
