PCRN faces mass defections and allegations of ethnic threats in Cameroon
The Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) is facing significant internal instability following a wave of defections and allegations of ethnic intimidation.
In Douala 5e, sixty-five militants have officially left the PCRN to join the Pacte social pour la gouvernance (PSG), led by Emmanuel Kueaka. This mass departure follows the recent exit of MP Nourane Fotsing and her husband, Firmin Fotsing. In response to these departures, PCRN leader Cabral Libii has maintained a pragmatic stance, stating that political freedom includes the right to choose other paths.
Simultaneously, the PCRN has issued a communiqué alleging that some of its members, particularly those from the Bamiléké community in the West region, are facing ethnic threats, intimidation, and social ostracism. The party claims these pressures are linked to their support for Libii over Maurice Kamto. The PCRN has called upon the Cameroon Human Rights Commission to investigate these claims, asserting that political differences should not result in targeting citizens based on their ethnic origins.
