Pécs Pride march held in Hungary for human rights

The sixth Pécs Pride march took place in Hungary, serving as the closing event of the ‘Freedom of My Identity’ human rights festival organized by the Diverse Youth Network. Under the slogan ‘Freedom cannot be banned!’, the parade began in the Uránváros district and proceeded through a five-kilometer route to Kossuth Square.

Participants, estimated to be between 700 and over 1,000 people, marched to advocate for human rights, freedom of assembly, self-identity, and acceptance. The event included a minute of silence to honor victims of homophobia and transphobia, followed by speeches at a central stage.

Géza Buzás-Hábel, the founder and director of the Diverse Youth Network and lead organizer of Pécs Pride, addressed the crowd. He noted that while some restrictive laws from previous administrations remain in effect, there is hope that the current leadership will resolve the legal status of LGBTQ+ individuals. He encouraged participants to live their lives without fear and to fight for happiness.
