PDRN ingredient gains popularity in skincare market

PDRN, or polydeoxyribonucleotide, is an ingredient gaining significant traction in the skincare industry. Originally utilized in regenerative medicine and professional aesthetic treatments—particularly in South Korea—this substance consists of DNA fragments traditionally derived from salmon.

Unlike traditional actives like retinol that focus on exfoliation, PDRN is noted for supporting the skin's natural regeneration processes at a cellular level. It is studied for its ability to assist collagen production, tissue repair, hydration, and the strengthening of the skin barrier. While it was previously administered through professional injectable procedures, it is increasingly being integrated into daily topical products such as creams, serums, and masks.

Modern production techniques are also evolving, with PDRN being increasingly sourced through sophisticated laboratory methods to provide non-animal alternatives to traditional salmon-derived sources.
