Peanuts merchandise sparks resale frenzy in Mexico

A new collection of Peanuts-themed merchandise released by Starbucks has triggered a significant resale frenzy in Mexico. The limited edition, titled ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the classic Halloween special and features characters such as Snoopy, Woodstock, and Charlie Brown across 10 different items.

While official retail prices for the star item—a 591 ml glass Snoopy cup—were set at 999 pesos, the item quickly appeared on resale markets for over 2,000 pesos, with some listings reaching nearly 3,000 pesos. Other items, including steel thermoses and ceramic mugs, also saw price inflation on secondary digital platforms.

This commercial surge coincides with broader celebrations of the Peanuts legacy. Following the 75th anniversary of the comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz, a new book by Simon Beecroft has been released to honor the franchise's history, tracing its journey from its 1950 debut in only seven newspapers to its status as a global cultural phenomenon.
