Pedara man arrested for kidnapping and raping partner
A 40-year-old man from Gela has been arrested in Pedara, Sicily, following allegations of kidnapping and sexual violence against his 35-year-old partner. The victim, who had recently decided to end the relationship due to his obsessive jealousy and previous abuse, managed to escape the residence at dawn after the assailant fell asleep.
The incident occurred after the couple had dinner in Catania and returned to their home in Pedara. According to reports, the man became enraged by the woman's use of her mobile phone, suspecting infidelity. He allegedly threatened her with a knife, used clothing and a pillow to attempt strangulation, and used adhesive tape to silence her. He then reportedly locked her in a bedroom and committed sexual assault.
The victim fled the house and sought help at the local Carabinieri station in a state of shock. Authorities responded immediately and arrested the man at the residence. He was found to be under a previous residence obligation in Gela and now faces charges of sexual violence, kidnapping, and personal injury. He has been transferred to the Piazza Lanza prison in Catania.
