Pedro Castillo allegedly demanded job positions from Peruvian deputy

Leaked WhatsApp messages from the office of Peruvian deputy Catherin Palomino suggest that former president Pedro Castillo allegedly demanded job placements within her staff. According to reports from the program Panorama, messages from July 2024 indicate Palomino discussed being pressured by Castillo to include his associates in her office.

The leaked chats also reveal discussions regarding political maneuvers against current President Keiko Fujimori. Palomino reportedly discussed the possibility of pursuing a vacancy or suspension of Fujimori based on alleged incapacity to govern. The messages suggest a desire among Palomino's team to be the first to initiate such a move to gain political advantage over colleagues.

Additionally, the conversations included a proposal to request a visit from Pope Leo XIV to assist with Castillo's judicial situation, though advisors noted the difficulty of such a request due to the strict papal schedule.
