Pedro Sánchez activates 2027 budget process and dismisses plan for a combined election

At the EU‑Western Balkans summit in Montenegro, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said there will be no "super Sunday" election that merges the general, regional and municipal votes scheduled for May 2027, rejecting proposals from the PNV and Junts parties. He stated, "Puedo garantizar, por activa y por pasiva, que no va a haber un superdomingo electoral."

Sánchez also announced that the government will begin the formal procedure to draft the 2027 State General Budget this week, with the drafting order to be published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado. He outlined that the budget will prioritize social policies, housing, and the financing of autonomous communities, while maintaining fiscal responsibility, reducing the deficit and aiming to bring public debt below 100 % of GDP by the end of the legislative term. He said, "Quiero anunciarles que el Gobierno va a iniciar los trámites para presentar y aprobar los nuevos Presupuestos Generales del Estado para el año 2027."
