Zohran Mamdani and Pedro Sánchez meet to promote alternative economic models
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez met in New York to advocate for an alternative economic model focused on strengthening the middle class and expanding social protections.
During the meeting, held at Gracie Mansion amidst the United Nations General Assembly, both leaders emphasized policies aimed at increasing wages, reducing inequality, and protecting workers. Sánchez stated that Spain is demonstrating that a different economic model is possible, while Mamdani highlighted his administration's efforts to raise the minimum wage and implement social policies.
The event, titled ‘Building an Economy for the Majority,’ also included the participation of European Council President António Costa. The leaders discussed the importance of investments, robust welfare states, and the interconnectedness of municipal and national strategies to support working populations.
