Pedro Sánchez faces criticism from Sumar and parliamentary allies over lack of reforms

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez addressed the Congress but failed to announce new social or democratic reforms, prompting Sumar to label the appearance “deeply disappointing.” Sumar demanded that Sánchez unblock the hourly‑register reform, adopt a stricter incompatibility regime for former presidents, ban public contracts to corrupt firms and renew the rent‑extension decree. The coalition’s parliamentary spokesperson urged the government to move from “words to deeds” and to repeal controversial sections of the public‑security law.

Other members of the governing coalition and opposition parties also attacked Sánchez’s tone, calling it “hurtful” and “ironic.” The episode sparked broader parliamentary unrest, with remarks about disrespect among MPs, accusations of political opportunism, and calls for early elections. The dispute highlights growing tensions within Spain’s left‑wing bloc as it approaches the final stretch of the legislative term.
