Pedro Sánchez unveils 2027 Spanish budget as Catalonia prepares its regional budget

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the government will present the 2027 national budget, a move critics say is intended to shift attention from ongoing corruption investigations and to forestall a potential motion of no confidence. The announcement comes after several years in which the national budget was not formally presented.

In Catalonia, the regional government expects to approve its first budget of the current legislature next week. Opposition parties Junts, the Catalan PP and Vox have said they will not block the accounts, avoiding a legal challenge before the Consell de Garanties Estatutàries. The Catalan budget totals €49.162 billion, about €4.6 billion more than the previous year, and includes measures such as a new airport authority, a higher cruise‑ship tourist tax and new definitions for large property holders.
