Pekanbaru street lighting panels stolen by unknown individuals

At least 70 public street lighting (PJU) panels and various components have been stolen by unknown individuals across several districts in Pekanbaru. The thefts have occurred in the Sukajadi, Tenayan Raya, Kulim, Bukit Raya, and Binawidya sub-districts, leaving numerous roads in total darkness.

According to Masykur Tarmizi, Head of the Pekanbaru City Transportation Agency (Dishub), the stolen panels contain critical operational equipment, including MCBs, kWh meters, and contactors. In addition to the panels, thieves have also removed cabling from the lighting network.

The agency has reported the incidents to the police and has deployed a specialized team to increase field surveillance to protect public assets. Local authorities are also urging the community to report any suspicious activity to the police or the Transportation Agency.
