Pekanbaru public infrastructure theft

Overview

Unknown individuals have stolen at least 70 public street lighting (PJU) panels and various components across several districts in Pekanbaru, including Sukajadi, Tenayan Raya, Kulim, Bukit Raya, and Binawidya.

Masykur Tarmizi, Head of the Pekanbaru City Transportation Agency (Dishub), stated that the stolen items include critical operational equipment such as MCBs, kWh meters, and contactors, as well as cabling from the lighting network. The thefts have left numerous roads in total darkness.

The agency has reported the incidents to the police and deployed a specialized team to increase field surveillance. Local authorities are also requesting that the community report suspicious activity.
