Sigfrido Ranucci bombing investigation links businessman Valter Lavitola
The parliamentary Antimafia Commission heard journalist Sigfrido Ranucci about the October 2025 bomb placed in front of his home in Pomezia. Ranucci testified that the explosive, made of gas‑filled devices, caused significant damage and raised questions about possible political and criminal interference. Prosecutors are focusing on entrepreneur Valter Lavitola, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the attack. Intercepted phone calls and financial records show attempts to finance the operation, including cash transfers of several thousand euros and the use of intermediary Gomes Clesio Tavares, a close associate of Lavitola. The investigation also highlights the role of Pellegrino D'Avino, identified as the operative who supplied the explosive device, described as “gelatina da cava”. D'Avino has denied knowing Lavitola or Ranucci and has exercised his right to remain silent. Authorities are tracing Lavitola’s bank accounts and overseas travel, including a trip to Cameroon, and are reviewing televised statements for possible coded messages. The probe remains ongoing, with a pending appeal to reduce the mafia‑related aggravation in the charges.
