Bosnia and Herzegovina faces rising costs for fuel, heating, and housing

Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing significant upward pressure on living costs across multiple sectors. Energy prices are a primary concern, with experts warning that diesel could exceed 4 KM per liter if global oil prices reach 110 USD per barrel.

Heating costs are also rising sharply as the season approaches. Retail prices for pellet fuel have surged from approximately 550 KM per ton in the spring to between 800 and 900 KM. Producers attribute this to high demand, raw material shortages, and decreased production, while also warning that some traders may be exploiting the situation to increase profit margins.

Additionally, the real estate market continues to see rising costs. In Sarajevo, average prices for new apartments reached 4,304.6 KM per square meter, while rental prices in major cities remain a heavy burden for households. Economists remain divided on whether rising fuel costs should serve as a justification for broader price hikes in goods and services.
