Balkans heating fuel price surge

In mid‑July 2026, heating fuel prices began climbing sharply across the Balkans. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, pellet prices jumped to 600–722 KM per tonne, more than double the previous ceiling, while split firewood rose by about 20 KM per cubic metre. Serbia saw pellet costs rise by 2,000–4,000 dinars per tonne. Suppliers blamed strong pre‑winter demand, higher production and fuel costs, and limited capacity, prompting some firms to pause new orders.

A week later, Bosnian suppliers warned that firewood and pellet prices would continue to rise as the cold season approached. Prices for split firewood were reported at about 148 KM per cubic metre and pellets at 680‑720 KM per tonne, up from the previous year. The market strain was attributed to a shortage of raw timber, the closure of several production facilities, rising oil prices affecting logging and transport, and increasing labour costs. The outlook suggested further pressure on household heating expenses throughout the winter.
