Balkan energy costs rise as fuel and pellet prices climb

Rising global oil prices and local supply issues are driving up energy costs across the Balkans. In Serbia, the government has implemented additional excise tax reductions to prevent fuel prices from rising by at least four dinars per liter, aiming to protect living standards despite global market trends.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, fuel prices in the Federation are trending upward, with diesel reaching an average of 3.49 KM per liter and Super 95 gasoline at 3.16 KM. To mitigate the impact, the government of Republika Srpska has extended a subsidy of 10 fenning per liter of fuel, having already returned approximately 14 million KM to citizens and businesses.

Additionally, the pellet market in BiH is facing a crisis due to raw material shortages and decreased production. Prices for pellet have surged, reaching up to 900 KM per ton in some urban centers like Sarajevo and Mostar, with producers warning that resellers are driving the price hikes rather than manufacturers.
