Peloponnese officials shift water strategy toward Lernea treatment plant

Following a meeting between Peloponnese Regional Governor Dimitris Ptochos and the mayors of Nafplio and Argos-Mykines, local authorities are shifting focus toward water management in the Argolis region. The decision marks a move away from a previously proposed large-scale processing plant in Anavalo in favor of constructing a water treatment plant in Lernea.

Kostas Karapavlos, President of the Nafplio Municipal Council, attributed this shift to a unanimous council resolution and significant citizen mobilization regarding irrigation and drinking water resources. The new strategy aims to protect the water sources of Lernea and Amymoni.

Ongoing regional priorities include upgrading biological treatment in Mylos, addressing sewage issues, controlling water theft, and replacing asbestos pipes within the supply network. Officials are also calling for a unified management body for surface and groundwater to improve resource oversight.
